I bought a flywheel from this ad: >Posted by: PowerUp on September 05, 2002 at 11:07 pm This billet flywheel lightened chromemoly is custom machined out of a solid billet chromemoly steel, these flywheels offer a( snip).... $350 shipped to your door Via DHL 3-6 Day service with tracking. Note: These flywheels take 1 week to manufacture from order date. (this totally did not happen for me--it took weeks longer to resolve--OK, but.. read on...)
>> Vist [ [ www.powerupbov.homestead.com/intercoolers.html ] ] email mugen1@mt.net.au Note: We do not include the Ring Gear. You can use the factory unit or buy the genuine unit. >>> this much is true. but be advised: a ring gear costs $100 US. on the best deal anyone can get. From talking to Tony, it seems like the conversion rate between U.S. $$ and AU $$ is a good price for this flywheel, but I was wholly unaware when I bought mine, it had no gear. I called all the local US guys with JUNs and they all said "of COURSE" it comes with a ring gear. Now: add the ring gear, and the labor to install, (my ring gear was impossible to remove from the stock flywheel, according to my experienced machinist) and you've got an expensive Chromoly. I called Greg Dupree. I called Ruzzell. Niether one had ever even tried to remove one, and had no experience of hearing onanyone doing this.
Now, why not just buy a Jun? well, in my case, Tony could not get the flywheel in the above-mentioned time, so he (paid extra-- he says --and "lost money") substituted a "knock off of a Jun--which is better quality than our flywheel anyways" he said. well. a REAL Jun is only $375 U.S. shipped in the U.S. maybe a tad more. I wonder how much less in US $$ a "knock off" is? makes you wonder why you'd buy a lower-than JUN-KNOCK OFF-quality flywheel for more U.S. $$-- especially when the website shows it as being substantially less in AU $$ (when you convert to US $$), even when you consider shipping. Apparently, it costs more than $100 AU to ship via DHL. we pay $600 AU for this flywheel, when on the site, it's much , much less in AU $$. Tony's a nice enough guy, but my butt hurts on this one. I paid more than $475 US when it was all said and done. _MWS
